As I reflect on my DRP journey so far, I was this morning reminded of the bonds of brotherhood that are being built as our cohort undertakes this program together.
I met James Brooks for the first time at Boot Camp. James made the connection straight away that his parents are neighbours to the Drew’s, long-term members of St Mark’s Revesby where I minister. He shared of his hope that the Drew’s witness would be of help to his non-Christian mother in particular, whom he has been praying for for all the years since his own conversion in his 20’s.
I was blown away to receive the email below this morning, and I rang up Beatrice (Bee) Drew straight away to hear from her about it, and to pray with her for Gaye (James’ mum) to come to faith. Beatrice shared that with the lockdown, she had taken to reading her Bible on the balcony in the warm sunny weather, and that one day, Gaye had enquired and expressed interest in what Beatrice was reading.
Thus began a regular practice of the 2 women sharing a cup of tea separately on their respective balconies, and of Beatrice reading Matthew’s gospel together with Gaye. Gaye has since been along to several church events, including Christmas. Please pray that God would bear the fruit of faith and repentance in Gaye, and give James and us all the great joy of seeing his mum come into God’s kingdom
